Majority Coalition Caucus leaders are pleased with bipartisan support
The Chair and Vice-Chair of the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee, Senators Janéa Holmquist Newbry and John Braun, celebrated the efforts of the Majority Coalition Caucus (MCC) to work collaboratively with several members of the minority to pass a number of bills that would bring stability and predictability to the private sector, which should result in new jobs and investments.
“Since we came together and formed the Majority Coalition Caucus in the Senate, we promised to dedicate ourselves to creating and preserving jobs, building a world-class education system, and passing a sustainable budget,” said Holmquist Newbry, R-Moses Lake. “As you can see by the bills that passed out of the Senate with the support of members of the minority party, our efforts have produced solid bipartisan results.”
“We are very happy with the results so far, but have a tempered optimism regarding the bills future in the House of Representatives,” said Braun, R-Centralia. “We were able to garner bipartisan support on several issues facing the business community, and we hope that House members share in our belief that these much-needed reforms will help create private-sector jobs.”
Braun, Chair of the Senate Trade and Economic Development Committee, and Holmquist Newbry carefully crafted a collection of proposed legislation designed to help Washington’s private sector create jobs and speed up the economic recovery.
“We have a bipartisan majority, with a leadership who welcomes debate on all issues, are open to new ideas, and are focused on the economy, education and the budget.” Holmquist Newbry said. “I want to thank Senator Braun for his leadership, dedication, and assistance in moving our jobs agenda forward.”
“In terms of the majority, we are passing bills that will improve conditions for workers, employers and the state, and above all else, and are unified in our approach to jobs, education and the budget,” Braun said. “While I am new to the Senate, I am very impressed with how smoothly we have progressed so far, and it has been a pleasure serving with Senator Holmquist Newbry as the Majority Coalition Caucus leader on business issues facing business owners like myself.”
